Bull Thistle

Cirsium vulgare

Bull Thistle is a biennial growing 2-5 feet in height, with a short, fleshy taproot.  At the present time, bull thistle is the least aggressive non-native thistle in the state, and is found more in the higher elevations of the state.  It is best distinguished from other thistles by its prickles in the upper side of the double-toothed leaves that also end in a spiny.  The bull thistle has an overall hyper-spiny appearance in its stalk, leaves, and flower bracts.
